Canadian Relief Efforts in Haiti

Haiti is Canada’s second largest recipient of developmental aid, and more than 100,000 people of Haitian descent live in Canada.

Governor General Michaelle Jean, who was born in Haiti, held an emotional news conference Wednesday afternoon saying, “We know that every minute, every hour, can make a difference and draw a line between life and death.”

A large Boeing C-17 was to leave this morning ( Thursday ) loaded with humanitarian supplies. The HMCS Halifax and the Destroyer HMCS Athabaskan will also be sent to Haiti once they are loaded with humanitarian supplies.

Nokia has written another article titled Accessing a Network Through the Side Door. In this article he writes about a presentation by a senior Microsoft programmer about computer security. The article includes video, and a good brief of the seminar. It describes an extremely well executed attack that fully exploits a web server, and then moves into the main corporate LAN, including a nice little remote desktop GUI. Canadian Nuclear Power Site Hacked

A Canadian nuclear power plants web page was hacked and an investigation is under way to determine how the attack was executed and by who. The hacker placed pictures of exploding nuclear bombs on every sub-page, but nothing on the main page itself. The attacker also placed a message that read, "Please Don't Put me in Jail....oops, I divided by 0". Canadian officials said no internal information was compromised.

DNS Root Servers Attacked

Last night there was an Denial of Service attack on 3 of the 13 DNS root servers. There was no noticeable damage done, or drop in performance. What did make this attack special was it was the largest attack on the DNS servers since 2002 and it lasted for about 12 hours. The attackers attempted to hide their identities (most likely using anonymous proxy servers), but some were tracked to South Korea. The investigation is still underway.

UBS sysadmin jailed eight years for virus

A sysadmin who took revenge on his former employer by launching a crippling virus on to its network, has been sent to prison for eight years.

Roger Duronio had been accused of infecting between 1,000 and 2,000 PCs at US stock-broker PaineWebber, part of the Swiss banking group UBS. The attack, carried out in the form of a virus "Logic bomb", stopped the company’s 17,000 traders from being able to access their systems for the whole of the day that attack took place, 4 March 2002.

PDFs open critical hole in Internet Explorer

A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe's Acrobat and Reader software which affects Internet Explorer users.

As well as causing crashes, the frailty could allow a botnet to take control of the whole computer when a PDF is opened within Explorer.

The hole is present in Acrobat Standard and Professional versions 7.0.0 to 7.0.8, and Adobe Reader 7.0.0 to 7.0.8. Only Microsoft's browser is vulnerable.

Nice, I can't wait to bring this up to my music-major friend with her MAC that IS SO AWESOME, and is incapable of getting a virus and all that goot stuff....

last year when some AIM virus went around asking you to click a link to a picture... she was like, "yeah, i have a mac so i can't get it, i clicked the picture just for fun"

A former Source Media Inc. executive was charged with hacking into the company's computer system three years after he was dismissed, and tipping off employees whose jobs were in jeopardy, prosecutors said Wednesday.

In a press release, the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan said Stevan Hoffacker, the company's one-time director of information technology and later vice president of technology, was charged with one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer network.

Source Media is the New York publisher of American Banker, the Bond Buyer and other financial publications. It is a unit of Bahrain's Investcorp.

As you may have guessed from the subject of this thread, it is located at:

I decided to move away from the colours of the forum, so as to try and give it its own identity, i hope you all like the theme i decided on. The subdomain basically runs off the same database that the TAZ Forum runs off, but only looks at the 4 tutorial forums.

It picks the 10 most recently replied to tutorials, the 10 most viewed tutorials and the 10 tutorials with the most replies. These are listed across the top, and then underneath it gives an excerpt (the first 800 characters) from the 5 most recently posted tutorials.

It also recognises if you are already logged on at the TAZ Forum and keeps you logged on, however if you are not logged on to the TAZ Forum it will give you the option to login, and that login will persist over to the TAZ Forums. There is still a bug in logging out at the Tutorials, in that you can't, i'll work on that, promise.

Features still to come to the Tutorials sub-domain are the ability to search the tutorials (as at the moment, you can only see the ones listed on the index) and the ability to register from the Tutorials sub-domain.

Anyway, enough of me waffling on, go have a look.

Oh yes, I also forgot to add that it does not view very well in 800*600. Basically its because i made the TAZ Tutorials logo to big. I'll also get that sorted so that it looks good.

It does however render very nicely in anything 1024*768 and above.
